Hands down the best plumber in Central Arkansas. I had a leaky tub for over 6 years and no one would fix it in my older home. They came in, did a great job, and cleaned up. As a local Realtor, they are my go to plumbers!

Would you be willing to purchase a new vehicle and fail to change the oil or rotate the tires? My guess is, absolutely not. For a vehicle to operate properly, be efficient and effective, and provide a peace of mind, there are some simple maintenance steps that are required. Did you know the same is true for the water heater in your home and business.

The water heater is the very heartbeat of the water system. Unfortunately, most are installed and forgotten. However, without proper maintenance, a water heater will break down internally causing premature failures. With calcium build up, the unit will work harder to achieve the set temperature which in effect decreases efficiency and increases energy cost. Should I even mention that unexpected cold shower?

Water Heaters require annual maintenance which involves visual inspection for leaks and corrosion, verifying all components are properly working, and a full system flush. No matter if your system is a tank or on-demand, we can help ensure your best “Return on Investment”.

1. Inspect the Pressure Relief Valve
The pressure relief valve is a critical safety feature. Test it annually by lifting the lever to ensure it releases water. If not, it may need replacement.

2. Flush the Tank
Sediment buildup can hinder efficiency and cause damage. Flushing the tank annually can remove sediment and improve performance. Turn off the power and water supply, then drain a few gallons from the tank.

3. Check the Anode Rod
The anode rod prevents tank corrosion. Inspect it every two to three years. If it's less than half an inch thick or coated with calcium, consider replacing it.

4. Set the Temperature
For safety and efficiency, set your water heater thermostat to 120°F. This temperature reduces energy consumption and prevents scalding.

5. Insulate the Heater
Insulating your water heater and pipes can reduce heat loss. Use an insulating blanket and foam pipe sleeves to save on energy costs.

Regular maintenance ensures your water heater runs efficiently and reliably. For professional inspections or repairs, contact Stiefvater Plumbing. Our skilled technicians are ready to help you maintain a comfortable home.

FAQ

What services do you offer at Stiefvater Plumbing?
We fix leaks, clear clogs, repair toilets, install water heaters, and handle sewer issues. We also take care of faucets, pipes, and other fixtures.
How do I know if I have a plumbing leak?
Watch for high water bills, wet spots on walls or floors, or the sound of running water when nothing’s on. A musty smell or mold can also be a sign.
What should I do in a plumbing emergency?
Turn off your main water valve. Shut off the water heater. Open your faucets to drain leftover water. Then call us right away!
How often should I get my plumbing inspected?
Every one to two years is best. Older homes or houses should get yearly checks!
How can I prevent clogged drains?
Avoid putting grease or food down the sink. Catch hair in the shower. Only flush toilet paper. Hot water flushes once a week can help too.
